Pet Portrait, Waxahatchi, TX “Jester & Booh”

Pet Portrait Paintings

Jester and Booh, best of buddies and soooo much fun to paint. These two are always together. For this pet portrait we wanted Jester, a harlequin great dane, to be BIG. Although he’s still not as tall as he is in real life, 34 inches at his shoulder! So it was no problem with him getting attention in the painting. The challenge came with Booh, he needed to be the right size, which is small in comparison, and black, without disappearing. His owners also wanted to make sure you could see his “crazy eyes”.

I was also trying to show their great relationship by wrapping Booh’s tail around Jester’s leg, even though I doubt they really ever hold still like that! The little paper ball play toy at the bottom is something personal that Booh get’s everyday to play with from his Mom.

Here is the progression of sketches I went through to get their poses right.

These are just a few of the many great photos I had to work from. The parents of these two love them so much and were always happy to send me more pictures so I could see different angles of Jester's spots. For awhile I thought they were moving around!
